Some Historical Facts...

  • The Borough of Verona was established in 1871 and occupies one half square miles.

  • Verona is situated approximately 12 miles from Pittsburgh along the Southeastern
    bank of the Allegheny River.

  • Verona was named for James Verner whose farm of 400 acres was subdivided and our town was formed.

  • Railroad buffs will be interested to know that Verona, Pa was at one time a major repair center for the steam locomotives of the Allegheny Valley Railroad and the Pennsylvania Railroad.

  • A large roundhouse was located near Center Ave. & Railroad Ave.Verona along with Oakmont, Pa comprises the Riverview School District.

  • The population of Verona, as of the 1990 census, is 3,264.

  • The Verona Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1889.
